Dear Members of our Community,
For 123 years, Wichita Children’s Home has been serving our community’s children. Founded in 1888 as the city’s first orphanage to “support and care for destitute and homeless children.” Today, Wichita Children’s Home offers the only emergency, temporary, residential shelter, and foster care program for children. The Home is open 24/7 and serves children from birth to 22 years of age.
Children are admitted by parents, law enforcement, social workers, and sometimes, they admit themselves. If a parent is in crisis and has no one to care for their child on a moment’s notice, the Home can be a respite. Last year, 1,766 children were provided care.
Wichita Children’s Home provides the Street Outreach Services (SOS). This program focuses on helping runaway and homeless youth. SOS provides presentations to high school assemblies, works with Exploited and Missing Children Unit (EMCU), and with local QuikTrips to provide a Safe Place where a child may go 24/7. There were 188 safe rescues last year.
BRIDGES is the transitional living program (TLP), working with youth 16-22. This program provides life skills, housing, counseling, and education to those that have nowhere else to go.
A heartfelt thank you to you, our donors, stakeholders, and volunteers for making sure our community’s children have a safety zone.
Sincerely,
Sarah Robinson
Chief Executive Officer
