Inside Story: Wild At Heart

By Laurie L. Dove | 10.01.2009

Many of our lives have been affected by breast cancer, and now Wichita’s own Wild At Heart is making it possible to give a little hope and encouragement.

During October, Wild At Heart will feature Brighton’s new Power of Pink collection, which is dedicated to helping eradicate this life-threatening disease. Brighton has created an exclusive Power of Pink bracelet and badge clip. Each time one of these pieces of jewelry is purchased, Wild At Heart will donate $5 to support breast cancer research and awareness.

Since 2003, Brighton has created a bracelet that — with your help — is reshaping the future of breast cancer. More than $3.1 million has been donated to breast cancer research, including organizations like the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the City of Hope Cancer Center and more.

Also during October, Wild At Heart is sponsoring a Brighton Memory Bag contest. To enter, simply visit either of the boutique’s locations during the first week of October and bring a photograph depicting a person who evokes a cancer-related memory. Whether it’s a photograph of a grandmother who is a cancer survivor, a girlfriend currently dealing with the disease, or children you hope will never experience breast cancer’s negative impact, these photographs will be honored during this unique contest. A handmade Brighton Memory bag, personalized with the winning photo, will be awarded at Wild At Heart’s east and west locations at the end of the month.

Then, invite your family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances to visit Wild At Heart and vote for your entry. Although only one vote per person is allowed per day, it’s OK to vote each day during the duration of the contest, said owner Marissa Marklewitz, who hopes the contest — and Brighton’s exclusive Power of Pink bracelet and badge clip — will offer hope and encouragement to anyone committed to fighting breast cancer.

While you’re browsing through Wild At Heart, and its selection of clothing, handbags, jewelry, shoes, purses and other accessories, be sure to ask about the boutique’s recently launched fashion concierge service. For a nominal fee, an in-store fashion concierge will help you win the battle with your closet by building attractive looks within your existing wardrobe, shopping for a special event ensemble, building core wardrobe essentials or determining the best styles and colors for your body type.

Although the fashion concierge service is available by private consultation for individuals, it also makes an ideal way for a group to spend a “girls night out,” and celebrate a new job, an upcoming wedding, birthday, class reunion or dream vacation.
